[[checkmark, bullet point]] The whole family was down to meet me this morning and it was great to see them; I get to miss them more and more as the Washington adventure wears on. All are well and I have contracted a cold but not too bad a one.
Went into session with Whitey and shortly after a call to Stevenson, we got word that if GE will send down some PD25F's their fourth quarter copper needs will be cared for. That practically called for a celebration.

[[checkmark, bullet point]] Whitey informed me that Chet Lang had told him present Company policy allows a man three months in WPB and then he has the choice of returning to the Company or signing up on the government payroll. He showed me his correspondence with Chet Lang which revealed that Andrew had informed Whitey that if he insisted on pulling me out Nov. 1st, he would have no choice but to offer me a job as [[underlined]] Assistant Chief of the Branch [[/underlined]] to keep me. Moreover he threatened to [[underlined]] draft Whitey [[/underlined]] himself. It must have been an interesting conversation. Chet has made a special dispensation in my case and will let me stay until Dec. 31 as the absolute limit after which I must become a consultant for a day or two a week. I think I can swing it on that basis.

[[checkmark, bullet point]] From word from Charles, he appears to be in the Solomons in the thick of the fray which at the moment seems to have taken a slight turn for the better. And yet Charles might be dead this minute and we not hear for a long time!

[[x]] Had Churches, Hauses and McAuliffes in for some Tripoley this evening - like old times. It will be great to get home regularly again and start living some sort of normal existence once more. And yet again, I suppose I'm lucky to see the family as often as I do. Suppose I were in the Solomons
