[[X]] Ken Kramer of Baldwins, who has an apartment out at the Roosevelt, invited Andy Campbell, Vic, Joe Rowbottom, Ed Harley, Charlie Whitehead, Huleguard, and I over to his place for a "hearts" session tonight, serving dinner up in the room to save time.  Just as in the case of rummy the other night, I started very bored and ended not only enthused but also $1.25 to the good.  Eight handed with two decks of cards was a circus.  I had three "balls" before dinner and then quit but Ed and Charlie Whitehead in particular kept on drinking all evening and Ed was pretty tight when he and I went home about 11:15.  I went over to the cigar stand to buy a paper when we got to the hotel and when I finished the transaction, Ed nudged me and pointed down the counter; I looked and there was a very gorgeous and scantily clad young lady standing there.  Ed just looked at her and then at me with an expression of baffled bewilderment on his face and never said a word - I don't know just what he had in mind but his look of dumbfounded interest struck me as funny as anything I remember here.  We both turned toward our respective elevators and went off to bed.

Chiefs in for a staff meeting this morning to give us a pep talk on the Controlled Materials Plan and impress upon us how much work there is to be done on it.  I had been hoping to get home this week but after listening to that dissertation, I decided I better stay down here and try to clear my decks for action.  I haven't progressed very well this week - too many
