Sanford brown showed me today Andrew's letter to [[lines highlighted by vertical line in margin]] John Hall in reply to Evans letter to Donald Nelson. Evidently, Andrew had edited it some since the first draft Charlie told me about but it was still plenty strong.  He built up a beautiful case against Porter's irresponsible scheduling including Rehorst's letter advising they anticipated no undue difficulty meeting the 0-6-0 schedule I authorized in Sept. if they could get material - this is the schedule Evans accused me of "forcing" him into at the Nov. 17th meeting.  Andrew said he questioned Evans sanity, demanded an apology for his attack on me and his resignation from his Industry Advisory Committee.  He deplored Evans attack and said he had "implicit" confidence in me.  It really was a masterpiece and I marvelled at his grasp of the whole complicated situation and the beautifully smooth way he developed the story. [[)]] [[/lines highlighted]]

[[checkmark]] Curt Green and Ed Harley asked me today if G.E. could furnish Baldwin's traction  motors for the 1000HP diesels to help increase their output in 1943 as now limited by (W) capacity.  I told them, after looking over what data we had in the Section, that there is a possibility but I insisted Charlie or Andrew broach the subject to G.E. before I  investigated at Eire this week - I don't want to get in a box with (W) on this thing - it is full of dynamite.  I told Ed I would not mention the thing at Erie unless they brought it up to me as a result of a request from Charlie or Andrews.

[[X]] Had a beer in the station before leaving tonight and saw who I am almost sure is Alfred Hudson who used to go to May Memorial Church and son of former president of Solvay Procus as I recall it.  He had a queer twisted mouth as a boy and now it is big lipped and twisted to one side with a heavy dark moustache as partial camouflage but he is a queer looking duck, apparently in
