I understand [[underlined]] Shap [[/underlined]] is on the rampage periodically and invited Ross Brackett off the Company's property recently so he could beat him up over some [[underlined]] gas rationing argument. [[/underlined]] Shap will be my problem again soon and I am not going to take him so seriously this time.

Had a grand [[underlined]] turkey dinner [[/underlined]] at home tonight and a pleasant evening at home relaxing with the family, the radio and the latest magazines, an almost unknown luxury to me these days. The Russians are on the offensive now and the German Army is said to be reeling back at Stalingard.

Friday, Nov. 27, '42.

Had a [[underlined]] blizzard [[/underlined]] today that lasted all day long with the wind howling and the sky dark, quite a contrast to Washington's usually mild sunny weather. I spent most of the day shopping, banking and trying to get things straightened out at home. The [[underlined]] car developed a strange [[/underlined]] noise that apparently is a partially blown out exhaust gasket somewhere. Got [[underlined]] antifreeze put in and filled the gas tank [[/underlined]] in anticipation of [[underlined]] rationing [[/underlined]] which starts next [[underlined]] Tuesday [[/underlined]] at [[underlined]] 3 gal. per week. [[/underlined]] When I get home again for good maybe I can get a little more.

I enjoyed lolling around home too today, reading and [[underlined]] helping Rog [[/underlined]] with his [[underlined]] airplanes. [[/underlined]] Got a great kick out of Capt. "Mike" [[underlined]] Moran's [[/underlined]] famed [[underlined]] order [[/underlined]] as the cruiser [[underlined]] "Boise" [[/underlined]] sighted a line of Jap [[strikethrough]]but[[/strikethorugh]] warships off the Solomons - "Pick out the biggest one and fire!" The "Boise," terribly battered but still afloat, and having accounted for five Jap warships in the battle, steamed into Philadelphia last week to a terrific ovation. Capt. Moran's words they say will [[underlined]] take their place in U.S. naval history. [[/underlined]]
