Dear Cole:

Allow me to refer to our conversation the other evening at the Barberry Room when you spoke to me about the Renoir painting that your wife had seen at our galleries a few days ago.

Though I understand that the price of this picture is somewhat more than you would like to spend, I am very anxious for you to at least see it, as it is one of the most beautiful Renoirs that I have ever seen in my life.

Your wife is also extremely fond of a very beautiful and striking abstract composition by de la Fresnaye which is in a far lower price bracket.

Can you possibly stop in here at the above, and have a look at these two pictures? Or, should you be too busy before your departure, I would be very glad to have them sent to the Waldorf -- without any obligation whatsoever to you -- where you can enjoy them at ease for a day or so.
