January 12, 1955

Dear Mr. Sciolette:

It was so pleasant to receive your letter of January 10th containing your good wishes for the New Year, and I trust that in the meantime you received ours, both for Mrs. Sciolette and you. I was rather surprised when I opened your "lettre recommandée," as I thought it would contain some valuable document - not, of course, that your writings are not very precious to me....!

I immediately telephoned several of the leading stores in New York, such as Altman, Macy, etc., in order to obtain a catalogue and was amazed to hear that they do not publish any such record. This is because of the fact that, according to their merchandising formula, their entire stock should be renewed three or four times every year. However, I shall shortly receive a catalogue from a very good store though a smaller one, and shall forward it to you by ship at once.

Now, should this not be satisfactory, the only other solution is to write to the Middle West to mail order organizations, such as Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward, whose main business is based on such catalogues, but I shall not do this until I have heard from you whether the Lewis & Conger catalogue will answer your request. Please do not hesitate to let me know, as it is, after all, but a small matter to obtain these publications from the mail order store; but in view of their sizes, etc., it would take some time.

The date of my next trip to Europe has not yet been set, but I am much looking forward to seeing you then. With kind greetings,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
