Andrew W. Mellon, Esq.,
1785 Massachusetts Ave.,
Washington, D. C.

Dear Mr. Mellon,

We thank you for your letter of the 12th instant. We wish to state that our client, Mr. George Rasmussen, President of the National Tea Co. of Chicago, asked us to act on his behalf after a letter he had received from one of the largest dealers in New York, stating that you would probably be willing to dispose of your Rembrandt for $150,000.

We think that we ought to be perfectly frank with you and show you how much we appreciate your very courteous letter by stating these facts and adding that it was a great surprise to us to hear that you were disposing of any of your pictures, and we would like you to quite understand that we acted only on the behalf and at the suggestion of our client.

We trust you will appreciate the spirit in which this letter is written.

Yours respectfully,
JACQUES SELIGMANN &CO., Inc.
