December 28, 1976

Dear Mary,

This envelope carries first, the clipping from the New York Times of Friday, the 24th, with the article referring to hypothetical appointments at the Metropolitan Museum, as we mentioned the other day at luncheon, should you not have laid hands on it in the meantime.

Also, herewith is a photostatic copy of J. Carter Brown's letter to me of December 22nd, just received.

Thanks must first go to you, for between the lines I realize that you must have talked over this matter of Middeldorf's attributions at great length. I am thus much impressed with the conclusions Mr. Brown has reached, for it shows a great, broad view indeed; it reveals a philosophical attitude which I've seldom encountered.

I am preparing an answer to Mr. Brown, which I will allow myself to submit to you before mailing.

With renewed appreciation of your kindness and courtesy, and with warm regards,

Yours,

Germain Seligman
