Dear Mary,

Ever so many thanks for the most impressive and truly superb catalogue of sculptures of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation.

Even though we may not agree with quite a few of Dr. Middeldorf's conclusions, we have to admit nevertheless that this publication represents a considerable amount of research and work altogether, and that its presentation is spectacular and in keeping with the tradition established by your Foundation.

In fact, were we willing to forego some of our personal frustrations, and look at it philosophically, we must recognize that the Foundations has gathered a most remarkable and beautiful group of sculptures. With the constantly increasing scarcity of such great works of art, generations to come will no doubt realize their debt of gratitude to the organization which made it possible for them to enjoy so many masterpieces of so many periods, and so many countries.

With renewed appreciation of your thoughtfulness, and with fond regards,

Yours,

Germain Seligman
