Mr. Germain Seligman
5 East 57th street
New York 22, New York

Dear Germain:

Thank you for your letter of October 7. You are right in your assumption that the new program of the Kress Foundation includes the concept of subvention for scholarly publications in the history of art and related connoisseurship. We have made grants to expand the size and scope of the [[underlined]] Bulletin [[/underlined]] of the College Art Association, and we have established a scholarly monograph series to be managed by the National Gallery of Art and the Phaidon Press. We have also talked about the problem of subventions for the possible translation of important looks into English but have not proceeded to the point of decision in this matter. There are, of course, important details to work out as an apparatus for selecting the monographs involved, choice of publisher, etc.,.

Much of the thinking and most of the implementing of this and other matters is the responsibility of Miss Mary Davis, Assistant to the President of the Kress Foundation. I would think, therefore, that the most productive thing you might to do to pursue your interest in the matter would be to arrange to visit with Miss Davis who can be reached at the Kress Foundation in New York. Needless to say, I would also hope subsequently and in the not too distant future to visit with you about the matter myself.

With kindest personal regards,

Sincerely
^[[Frank]]
