Dear Mr. Seligman:

A number of years ago the Foundation purchased a marble bust said to be of the Duc de Chaulnes by Coysevox. Since that time, Charles Seymour found some evidence which changed both the attribution to Coysevox and the identification of the subject.

The other day I had an inquiry from a lady in Alabama who claims some sort of kinship with the [[underlined]] Duc [[/underlined]], asking where the bust is located as she had been unable to find it at the National Gallery. It is still there, however, but since the identification of the subject has been changed, it is not of interest to her. When I wrote her of these changes she asked me if I knew of any likeness of the Duc de Chaulnes. Obviously, this is something upon which we cannot afford to spend much time, but I wondered if you could tell me whether or not there is some ^[[French]] national portrait gallery or archives to which I might refer her.

With kindest regards,

Sincerely yours,
