The World Center for Exploration

Man's new age of science and exploration requires greater individual and collective excellence than ever before. A vital need in continuing our forward thrust is the increasing dissemination and exchange of information, and the fuller cooperation of exploration and field scientists. Thus the World Center for Exploration, the informational, educational, and research wing of The Explorers Club, has a continuing purpose of serving as a national catalyst, and bringing together many agencies for the encouragement of excellence in the field and exploration sciences. By doing this, we also stimulate and upgrade field training and exploration services throughout the world, as well as in America.

Center interests embrace programs in all of the space, oceanographic, and terrestrial environments, and with special emphasis on the involvement of young people in the field sciences, we seek to help direct meaningful projects for youthful participation. Through The Explorers Club, with its renowned

international membership representing every scientific discipline in the natural sciences, there is available a highly competent and willing reservoir of practical and inspirational talent for a host of multipurpose activities.

There is great and endless challenge in the realm of physical exploration. Here the tasks are more difficult than ever, because barriers of the unknown remain uncompromising and delineate the most physically hostile of environments-in space, in the seas, and still in many regions of the land. Yet, the benefits and solutions gained from such challenge have wide and vigorous significance to other parameters of our complex society.

In an age when so much of our effort is devoted to the"average," and so much discussion surrounds the plight of the sub-average, we must remind ourselves that through opportunities provided for development of the best, the growth and destiny of the average and sub-average depends. Excellent ends demand excellent means.
