or to allow myself the right to my own poetry: to believe in my ideas on art - ideas slowly evolved from years on Kauai, at Hana, at Hawi, or to follow a Kuniyoshi, a Sternberg-Orozco credo of composition- technique.

And then, late in the afternoon I painted - not a picture of plantation life with figures, not a still life, but a picture of morning and a reef. 
 
And I felt well again.

11/11- First, about my trip to Maine - Marblehead in the moonlight - a [[strikethrough]] well [[/strikethrough]] harbor well-stocked with houses - Maine -

The rolling hills of yellow.  The coastal plains, and the cold air.  The red sun setting. Waldoboro on a Sat. nite, & Pemaquid Pt. in the very cold air.

[[strikethrough]] if [[/strikethrough]] The reception at the Whitney.  "Mrs. Force: don't go to the dealers.  Let them [[strikethrough]] make the [[/strikethrough]] come to you."  At least I have made a N.Y. show with the important artists of today.  I dare say my painting stood up quite well.  So why the hell am I only half-confident of my work!
