Yellowhead [[male symbol]] at approaches of birds body forward [[mark on left margin highlighting this area]] to horizontal position, tail [[underlined]] down [[/underlined]] & head stretched forward. pursues [[female symbol]] with great rustles of wings through air. [[male symbol]] flies in to perch [[/mark on left margin highlighting this area]] with hanging feet [[insertion]] [[-warm?]] [[/insertion]] breaks through two or three lots of rushes to perch in it farther over. [[strikethrough]] apparently just [[/strikethrough]]. males spies [[female symbol]] gathering nesting material. Darts at her & [[underlined]] pursues [[/underlined]] her swiftly out across sage [[underlined]] brush [[/underlined]] to [[underlined]] return [[/underlined]] to perch. female goes to nest site Male flaps [[underlined]] up [[/underlined]] from perch 25 feet away & with hanging feet and strokes of wide extended wings flies near, [[underlined]] plunks [[/underlined]] in beside her giving a low chattering cha cha cha cha. idea seems to be to make noise and attract attention.

 Eared grebe [[male symbol]] & [[female symbol]] Eared grebe 10 feet away [[checkmark]] swim directly toward each other. [[underlined]] Suddenly [[/underlined]] checking as bills almost touch. Remain for a second or two & then turn around & [[symbol]] depresses crest lower head and nods it giving low trilling notes while swimming to examine something in [[mark in margin highlighting these two lines]] front of him as two then separate.
[[male symbol]] Yellowhead half hobbles, half walks [[/mark in margin highlighting these two lines]] through [[underlined]] rushes [[/underlined]], tail down head lowered & back humped.

Draws bill down toward breast then jerks it rapidly striking feathers above air [[insertion]] ^ with top of [[trown?]] [[invisible?]] [[/insertion]] and producing tick tick tick tickety [[underlined]] sound [[/underlined]]  by the concussion. [[underlined]] Thus [[/underlined]] the air sac is used as a [[underlined]] tympanum [[/underlined]]. Then he raises the bill extends it opens mouth & gives second notes. This is a double note one part being [[underlined]] gnok [[/underlined]] & the other a reedy gwek the last

uThe tally for 2 could be an 11. I went with the tally, since it seemed like he only wrote series of numbers, but not sure. :) Also not sure how to transcribe tallies - went with how original transcriber marked it! :) - GigglePop
