Hunters fear birds believing them to have anthrax or to have been poisoned. Others are picking them up or shooting them. about 300 living birds in water swimming. some barely able to fly.

Suggest outbreak now due to influx of flight birds from other areas. Region where found is in old area of grassland and is upper part of trough. Increase in water here due probably to draining rice fields.

Great flight of Sprig from west and northwest at daybreak. Birds came on in swiftly 
[[checkmark]] flying irregular lines broken into companies like soldiers. Line followed line until in the aggregate 20,000 birds must have passed all were travelling southeast toward Sacramento River 100-150 yards high. Passed with a swift rush of wings.
