August 26,1918.

Prof. Alex Wetmore,
1011 Forum Building,
Sacramento, California.

Dear Wetmore:

Your report on experiments with quail and upon other points has been received. Your results corroborate those obtained by the Public Health Service and with other information we have had relating to the resistance of gallinaceous birds to strychnine poisoning would seem to make it almost certain that no great destruction of quail has resulted from the Biological Survey poisoning operations.

I am glad to learn that you will be able to visit Washington for I think the problem there is a very interesting one, which it should be possible to solve.

On account of the fact that you will be away from Hayward perhaps not to return there this season, the matter of the double charge on the express packages will be handled from here. A claim will be made to the company for the amount paid by you and in due time you should receive a check. This matter probably will be settled soon because the charges have not yet actually been paid here. You should not, therefore, put in a claim for this amount in your expense account.
