[/preprinted]]

August 19,1918.

Dr. Alex Wetmore,
1011 Forum Building,
Sacramento, California.

My dear Wetmore:

I trust you have received my letter of August 5, and the various telegrams relating to your work in the West.

The situation is as follows; the damage to rice should engage your attention first, and be given all the time it needs. Before the latter part of September when an opportunity occurs you can work with the quail. After that if you can take time off from the work in relation to rice ^[[ you can do the Washington job]]. [[strikethrough]]y[[/strikethrough]]^[[Y]]ou can learn by correspondence with Mr.Beck, whose address I furnished you, what is the best time to make the apricot and almond investigations, and whether both might possibly de done at the same time.

Mr. Nelson wishes to see you while in the West. He will be in Oregon in September, and if you make the trip to Washington in that month please write Finley and keep him informed of your address. If these arrangements are not carried out Mr.Nelson will want to see you in California early in October. He should be able to get in touch with you there through the Game Commission or Garlough.

Your telegram relating to mailing address and boots has been received. The latter will go forward by mail.

Sincerely,
[[signed]] W. L. McAtee [[/signed]]
Assistant Biologist.
