8-17-18 [[preprinted]] UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE BUREAU OF BIOLOGICAL SURVEY WASHINGTON, D. C. ADDRESS REPLY TO CHIEF, BUREAU OF BIOLOGICAL SURVEY, AND REFER TO [[/preprinted]] August 9, 1918. Dr. Alex Wetmore, 1011 Forum Building, Sacramento, California. Dear Wetmore: Under separate cover I am sending a few bones of a bird found in the stomach of a jaeger. The sample is not very complete and the bird appears to be immature, taken from the egg if I am not mistaken. I shall be obliged for any opinion you may be able to give on this material, which it is possible you could name more closely if you were here in washington. I am inclosing also a letter from one of our South American friends. which I should like to have you translate for me. I think I know what the man is driving at, but it is a case where I want to know exactly. This letter is from one of the institutions removed from the exchange list of the Biological Society and invited to become a subscriber. Your report on the birds of Stinking Lake has been copied and turned over to Preble with careful instructions as to its use. I talked over this matter with the Chief and he confirms the impression you [[strikethrough]] have [[/strikethrough]] got in your conversation with him before you left Washington. With best regards. Sincerely, [[signed]] W.L. McAtee [[/signed]] Assistant Biologist. Inclosure 5926
