In addition to contending with the duke we were compelled to guard our wheat and barley fields until about the first of April to prevent our plantings from being destroyed by geese, which were also in this district in unusually high numbers.

Under conditions such as existed in autumn and winter of 1917 and 18, we are placed in particular position of either devoting out money and effort to the production of feed for supporting migratory game birds, or committing sets which are in opposition to established laws. You will agree with me that under existing conditions a reasonable man will take chances in objection to established law in order to save food crops, particularly grain, but it is nevertheless a very unforgivable position for an individual to be placed in.

We are accordingly very much interested in legislation which will permit grain growers to protect their crops against destruction by migratory game birds and yet be able to stay within the law appertaining to the treatment of game birds. We can submit evidence in support of our statements and can also procure additional evidenced from people similarly situated and completely establish the fact that the losses incurred by the inroads of migratory game birds are now a very serious matter, which in our opinion requires prompt action along selective lines.

Yours truly,

(SGN) DODGE LAND COMPANY,

By H. O Jacobson, Hanager.
