16. [[underline]] Falco mexicanus [[/underline]] Schaegel.

Prairie Falcon.

One was observed 4 miles west of Gallup on July 5.

17. [[underline]] Falco columbarius [[/underline]] Linnaeus.

Pigeon Hawk.

Tw were observed at Red Lake on the morning of June 27.

18. [[underline]] Cerchneis sparveria [[/underline]] phalvena.

Desert Sparrowhawk.

This small falcon was seen near Red Lake on June 26, where one stooped gracefully at a lizard running along the grounds and near Crystal, N. M., on June 27. On the high mesa it was fairly common at 8600 feet and was observed daily. The Mountain and Chestnut-backed Bluebirds seemed much perturbed whenever this hawk appeared, and perhaps with reason, as on June 29 I saw a sparrow hawk with an immature Bluebird in its talons, as was shown by feather s that came floating down to me. On July 2 a male was seen darting at a sharp-skinned Hawk that was soaring in short circles above the forest.

19. [[underline]] Bubo virginianus pallescens [[/underline]] Stone.

Western Horned Owl.

Great Horned Owls were heard hooting from the sandstone cliffs above Red Lake during the night of June 26, and one was heard near Crystal, N. M., after dark on June 27. This owl apparently did not occur on the high mesa of the Chusca Mountains.

20. [[underline]] Dryobates villosus [[/underline]]

Hairy Woodpecker.
