in order to qualify for distribution, all money collected must be in the Foundation's hands by December 1 of each fiscal year. Thus, it seems likely that the earlier that corporate funding could be received from the Japan Foundation would be February 1982.

[[underline]] Korea [[/underline]] - Present uncertainties of Korean policies may interfere with project funding, despite such recent favorable signs as Prime Minister Park's request for a letter from the Secretary and Korean permission for [[underline]] 5,000 Years of Korean Art [[/underline]] to appear at the Smithsonian.

[[underline]] Middle East [[/underline]] - Overtures have been made to Saudi Arabia and the Arab Emirates for substantial support for new museum construction.

[[underline]] Hong Kong, Singapore [[/underline]] -  Efforts are underway to identify a significant number of trade and shipping interests in Hong Kong and Singapore who will be approached this autumn.

[[underline]] Museum of African Art [[/underline]] - An official proposal brochure is complete and plans are now being considered for approaches to African nations and other groups interested in African art and culture.

[[underline]] U.S. Corporations [[/underline]] - A major effort to raise several million from U.S. corporations will be launched at the September meeting of the National Board of the Smithsonian Associates. A new brochure on the entire Quadrangle project is being prepared and will be available for subsequent use by Board members and the Development Office in specific corporate proposals.

[[underline]] Legislation. [[/underline]] On the basis of informal advice from the Office of Management and Budget, the Institution will submit a $25 million Quadrangle construction request within the FY 1982 OMB submission.
