[[underlined]]Construction, Renovation and Restoration[[/underlined]]

The FY 1981 Congressional action appropriating $5,000,004 Museum Support Center instruction and the $2,500,000 trust fund commitment will allow the Institution to award a contract based on the original design and remain essentially on target with the planned construction schedule of the Center.

The FY 1981 Congressional appropriation report language stated that the $500,000 Quadrangle planning request was not approved because 1st priority was given to the Museum Support Center. The OMB is allowing the Institution to submit an FY 1982 Quadrangle construction request to Congress in the amount of $24,135,000 and this action will be reflected in the [[underlined]]Prospectus[[/underlined]] along with the Institution's planned intentions of introducing legislation for construction authorization early in the 97th Congress.

OMB approved the FY 1982 construction request of $6,000,000 for the aquatic habitat exhibit at the Zoological Park and requests for Institution-wide renovation and restoration activities as submitted in the budget in the amount of $9,650,000, including Zoological Park projects at Rock Creek and Front Royal. Projected work and resources for the period FY 1983-86 remain the same as portrayed in the draft [[underlined]]Prospectus[[/underlined]].

An effort will be made in the next planning cycle for FY 1983-87 to look beyond five years and add a chapter to the [[underlined]]Prospectus[[/underlined]] which presents development possibilities of the Institution for eight to ten years, particularly for space planning and other activities which require longer-term projections.

The following motion was approved:

VOTED that the Board of Regents approves the Five-Year Prospectus dated Jan. 26, 1981, covering the fiscal years 1982 to 1986, anticipating that annual revisions will similarly be presented for its approval.
