[[underlined]] Affirmative Action, Phase I and II[[/underlined]] .  In accordance with EEOC guidelines, the Smithsonian set hiring goals in four occupations which were targeted for affirmative action in FY 1980: Zoologist, Museum Curator, Museum Technician and Visual Information Specialist.  These were selected based on their density, anticipated vacancies and opportunities for advancement.  By and large minorities are heavily underrepresented in all four occupations, and women in 3 of the 4.  Only  minimal progress was made in these particular occupations.
