[[underlined]] Smithsonian Magazine Personnel [[/underlined]]

The Secretary reported that Edward K. Thompson, founding Editor and Publisher of [[underlined]] Smithsonian [[/underlined]] magazine, has retired, but he will continue to advise and assist the Secretary on a variety of topics relating to the printed and electronic media. In place of Mr. Thompson the Secretary has appointed Don Moser as Editor and Joe Bonsignore as Publisher of the Magazine. Both have had wide experience in publishing and have benefitted under Mr. Thompson's tutelage at [[underlined]] Smithsonian. [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] Executive Session of the Board [[/underlined]]

In executive session the Regents agreed to raise the Secretary's salary to $87,500, effective January 1, 1981. In addition, the Board expressed its appreciation for the exceptional service being rendered by the Under Secretary.

[[underlined]] Regents Dinner [[/underlined]]

The Regents' Dinner was held Sunday evening, January 25, 1981, at the Renwick Gallery. During dinner the Chancellor welcomed the new Regents and introduced the Secretary.

Mr. Ripley presented to David Rockefeller and the Chase Manhattan Bank the Smithsonian Associates' Corporate Founders' Medal, given in recognition of their donation of an extremely important money collection to the National Museum of American History. The accompanying citation, prepared in fine calligraphy, read as follows:
