Algasee is a small place of five houses and families of Yekuts and Turguse (not nomadic) and one Cossack.  In summer they all live in Chrmokam at the mouth of the river and catch fish for their living, and to trade with the whalers, a few of whom came into Ondskoi, or Southwest Bay as the Americans call it.

Nov. 13/25 left of Algasee before daylight and that evening reached Adyskoi and remained there until Dec. 7/19 being unable to procure deer sooner; bought provisions from the Espravricks, returned to Algasee with dog knouts and Dec. 8/20 left for Aian.

The entire population of Odyskoi, which amount to almost fifty souls, principal Cossacks and their families, migrate south with the exception of a few who remain to look after their gardens where they raise a few small potatoes to Chimaker in the steamer, the Espravnik or head man included.

It was found quite impossible to procure any kind of a guide to Aian by any route.  The Turguse who furnished the der never having been north of the Onda, but trusting to Providence and some faint recollections of the country which Mr. Swarts had we started, determined if possible to find a direct route on the Eastside of the Juffr or Stanowag range.

Unfortunately the night before leaving Algasee the wolves, which are very plenty near the Coast, killed two of our deer, and is it was impossible then to procure others, the two Turguse who accompanied us were obliged
