deep, as a general average 2 ft, although at the head of stream.  Crossing Moanter it increased to 3 ft. and some instances 4 ft. We were favored with remarkable fine weather, although the Ther. ran down to 20° and 30° Reaumer.  But we had not a single snowstorm between Algasee and Aian, the snow having fallen while we were laid in Adyskoo.

After passing up the Elamdra, we crossed the Kelar hills in not at all a difficult place, then the Kelar stream to the Neami, found near the fork a Turguse family, consisting of an old man, his daughter, and small son, another son and daughter being in the Brouka country hunting.  Crossing the Neami, we ascended the Oulikam river, then a low divide, and we were on the Markta, following its course until we turned up a branch called Orowa, followed it to the head, another low divide and we were on the Nanta.  This river for a long distance runs N.N.E. nearly parallel to the Coast, until within 10 versts of the Sea it turns abruptly to it.  There we left it and ascended the Tremah to the Ovey Hills, which are similar to the Kelar Hills, bleak and bare of trees, crossed and in to the Ovey river, which we follow about 20 versts from the hills to the postroad between Aian and Zakrtsk, reaching it at a point 25 versts from Aian Gang 5/17,66.

Our general course from the Geram to postroad was nearly straight and parallel to the seacost, and at a distance from it of about 25 versts.  The greater part of the way is heavily wooded, but there occasionally stretches barren and plains thinly wooded and short distance
