The Angern, I am informed, runs through a very fine fertile valley, and a great many Gilzaks live there. But the information I received was so vague that I can not give anything decided as to the advantages [[?]] by that route.

Between the month of the Youm river and Port Aian, I think there can be but one route followed to advantage, and that is as we came.

It is sufficiently far form the Sea, being inside of the Coast range to avoid fogs and the cold disagreeable winds, and following as it does the course of branches of rivers that run into the sea. Stores and material can be transported a great part of the way comparatively easy. None of the rivers or their branches are large, but it will be possible to use flat-bottomed canoes between propelled by poles, and carrying quite an amount of freight, especially if advantage is taken of the season when the water is at its highest.

In winter, transportation on these streams with Reindeer and Knartzs will be very easy.

Between Port Aian and Okhaotsk there are several points where the general route can be confirmed, but I had not the time or means to make the surveys I wished. It may perhaps be well to follow the Alderman to the Sea or near it if possible and thence up to the Ulkan, on account of the water communication. I have mentioned before that I think a better road can be found by going up the Tyoh to its head and then on to the Ugar river.
