Monday 18th Mr. Mason and I went over the river to get out some timber for making door frames, and stuff for a table. In coming back Mason froze his hands and wrists badly.  19th put up posts for [[Umber?]] and commenced laying up the logs snowing some wind.  Wednesday 20th my face pained me so much that I could not be out - men still engaged on the [[Umbar?]].  Blowing strong with snow, very cold.  21st Poorga today could not work outside.  Worked on the inside of the house stopping holes - Evening - wind from the S.E. about 45[[degree symbol]] minus.  22nd Working on Umbar weather still very cold, Nartes arrived from Markova and Crepast with provisions and tools.  23rd Saturday. Finished Umbar - very cold - wind blowing from S.E. 24th Nartes returned to Markova. 25th Monday.  Went down the river to look for a place to cut poles, men working around the house. 26th Snow and wind storm, grinding tools in forenoon.  Cold less intense - still storming some.  27th Could not commence cutting poles this morning on account of the storm.  Weather mild. 28th Commenced cutting poles - cut 175.  Snow very deep, hard work getting through it.  Cutting poles near the mouth of the Olgan river.  March 1st cutting poles - cut 194.  weather very fine. First
