He noted that the staff continues to be reminded of the space requirements of the collections and of the need to be alert to opportunities for appropriate deaccessions and loans to other museums. He cited the possibility of such loans and traveling exhibitions as a partial relief to the storage problems inherent in receiving Mr. Hirshhorn's bequest of additional works of art.

[[underlined] Award of the Henry Medal to Warren Robbins [[/underlined]]

The Commission of the National Museums of African Art urged that the Board of Regents recognize Mr. Robbins' service to the Smithsonian and to the Nation in founding the Museum and overseeing its development from a small private venture to its present status.  After considering the range of possibilities, the Secretary suggested that the most appropriate recognition of Mr. Robbins' career-long efforts dedicated to the greater understanding and appreciation of the aesthetics of traditional African Art would be the Henry Medal, whereupon it was

VOTED that the Board of Regents awards the Henry Medal to Warren Robbins in recognition of his inspired and untiring efforts in establishing, building, and bringing to the Smithsonian Institution the collections, staff, properties, and public good will which together constitute the National Museum of African Art.

[[underlined]] Appointment of National Museum of African Art Commissioners [[/underlined]]

Public Law 95-414, incorporating the Museum of African Art into the Smithsonian, calls upon the Board of Regents to reconstitute the Commission after its first three years to provide for staggered terms of membership thereafter.  In drawing up a slate of fifteen names, Smithsonian staff and the current Chairman of the Commission, former Senator and Regent Frank Moss, were mindful of balancing old and new members and the guidance contained in P.L. 95-414.  The following motion was adopted:
