The meeting of the Board of Regents was held in the Regents' Room of the Smithsonian Institution Building and was called to order by the Chancellor at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September, 20 1982.  Present were:

Nancy Hanks
A. Leon Higginbotham
S. Dillon Ripley, Secretary

The following Regents were unable to attend because of prior commitments: Vice President Busch and Mr. Humelsine.

Hohenlohe; Executive Assistant to the Secretary James M. Hobbins; Assistant to the Chief Justice Mark W. Cannon; Assistant to Senator Jackson, D. Michael Harvey; Assistant to Senator Goldwater, Jim Horton; Assistant to Mr. Mineta, Paul Schoellhamer; Assistant to Mr. Boland, Mike Sheehy; Assistant to Mr. Conte, Mary Silveira; and Assistant to Dr. Bowen, Marcia Snowden.

The Chancellor began the meeting by welcoming Miss Hanks as Regent, noting her long association with the Smithsonian and her honor from the Institution, the James Smithson Medal, awarded in 1976.
