Planning Commission in October for final Site and Building Plan approval.  Legislation authorizing Quadrangle construction was signed by the President on June 24, 1982.

The National Zoological Park redevelopment is planned to be mostly complete by FY 1988.  The Aquatic Habitat project, including provision for the National Aquarium, planned early for FY 1986 has been postponed indefinitely pending future developments.  In its place, the Zoo is planning to complete construction of the second phase parking garage and removal of paved parking lots that detract from the completed portions of the master plan.  In addition, about $9,000,000 also will be sought between FY 1985 and FY 1987 for the Holt House (which houses the Zoo's research staff), Olmsted Walk Exhibits, graphics and other requirements.  At the Conservation and Research Center at Front Royal, a facility master plan has been adopted which provides a renovation and redevelopment program, most of which can be accomplished in the next five years at a cost of about $9,500,000.

The Institution's restoration and renovation five-year plan requests about $14,500,000 per year, and represents an increase of $6,000,000 to $7,000,000 over past years.  This increase is necessary for the completion of major roof, façade and heating and air conditioning projects in a timely and economic fashion, while continuing the maintenance and upgrading of all museums and other buildings.  These revised projections include studies completed this past year, including various projects estimated to cost between $4,000,000 and $20,000,000.  These projections also include projects programmed earlier that had to be delayed due to lack of funding.

The Institution is also projecting a requirement for construction authorization and appropriations for a new laboratory building at the
