return from La Pienes House (on the 26th June) found his instructions regarding our Company very slight and meagre. As you know we waited till he had got through trading with some 200 or 250 Indians and then, there being some goods left, he allowed us to draw from the store, to pay our Indians, a few articles — as follows —

2 flint Guns
1 Capote [[ditto for Guns]]
3 Knives
1 Powder horn

The value of which in "skins" is about 28$ only. He was however so dubious about doing this much, that Dall and myself reluctantly abandoned all idea of going further and meeting you, as we at first prosed I have reason to be very much obliged to you, and to Mr Dyer for your kindness during my stay at Nulato, and for rendering at all times, all the necessary assistance in your power.

I am, Sir,
Yours obediently
(Signed) Fredk. Whymper
