Wadesboro' January 23rd 1869

Col. Chur
Raleigh
N.C.

Sir

I am acting as the Head of the School committee, for the School at Wadesboro' for the freedmen. I can report to you that John A. Gale kept his school through December 1868 and is continuing the school through this month. we were promised aid and have been receiving it except for December and January. the House rent is due for December and soon will be due for January, and John A. Gale tells me that he has not received vouchers for December or January and as the officers at Raleigh have always been so prompt in paying, he dont know what to think about it there is one thing I can assure you that the colored people are not now nor will they be for some time to come, able to keep up the school. our new school House will soon be done but the labor and money will have been spent in vain if we can't get assistance to help pay the teacher. I wish it was otherwise

I am with Respect your
obedient servant
