Bureau of Refugees, freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, 
Washington, D.C., ^[[January 9th]] , 1869.

By direction of the Secretary of War Mr. ^[[J W Hilton]] is hereby appointed a ^[[Clerk]] in the Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands, ^[[State of No Carolina]] at a salary of ^[[$100.]] per month.

This appointment is made under the provisions of "An Act to continue in force and amend an Act to establish a Bureau for the relief of Freedmen and Refugees, and for other purposes." It will take effect ^[[Jan'y 11th 1869]] and remain in force until revoked by orders from this Office.

The oath required by law will be taken, and filed in the office of the ^[[Asst.]] Commissioner of the ^[[State of No Carolina]]
