honesty thereof, together with my embarassed condition at present, financially, I respectfully submit might entitle me to my salary for the month of November, 1868. I have a wife and four children dependent upon me, for a support, and since the cancellation of my appointment, I have not been able to secure any regular employment. I am without money, and without employment. I have advertised publicly, and sought privately, some work here, but as yet, unsuccessfully. I have written to Genl. Grant, asking an appointment: but expect my communication is classed also with that, of the Office-seeker. May I ask of you, the kind favor, to endeavor to secure me, a clerkship in either of the departments at Washington, or elsewhere. Work does not frighten me, but I am afraid of idleness. My family are dearer to me
