1201 Grand Avenue July 25th 1878 My dear Alice, Your letter was duly rec'd - I was very glad to hear from you, & quite reliev'd to find you [[underlined]] survived [[/underlined]] the [[underlined]] terrible heat [[/underlined]] It was something [[underlined]] frightful [[/underlined]] here, for almost a week - but the last of few days, have been - simply - perfect & we trust the "heated term" is over - And now to the [[underlined]] principal [[/underlined]] subject of your letter - You could not have appli'd to a more [[underlined]] unsatisfactory [[/underlined]] person than myself- for I really know very little about any, except my own family - I know my Father [[was]] Peter Fletcher, & [[as was?]] my Grandfather, but nothing farther in that direction. I know my Grandmother Fletcher & Professor Adams (of Dartmouth College) mother, & the Mother of the Boston Appletons - Nathan, [[Eb'sr]], & Sam Appleton
