My Dear Miss Alice,

I want to write it thus because Alice is one of my favorite names, - and I would like it associated with one whom I shall be glad to have met - always.

I am glad they all listened to you, if the response was not one that could be desired.  You must always remember that every work worth [[?]]  meets with discouragements at the beginning.  I have often noticed that the projects which set out and with a grand flourish
