[[clipping]] The recent reports of the discovery of gold in Alaska have led to great excitement among miners of the West, and papers from gold mining districts report the commencement of a movement which threatens to become a general rush to the new grounds.

I hear from several seperate sources that there will be a large influx of miners this spring & among them several influential congressmen, who are intending to [[underlined]] purchase [[/underlined]]. This [[underlined]] settles [[/underlined]] the question of government. The [[underlined]] next Congress [[/underlined]] will organize a government - Now the thing for the friends of the Indians to do, is to see that the legislation, (that is bound to be enacted next winter, whether we interest ourselves in it or not) is made as favorable as possible to the native races to secure for them as large educational advantages as possible -

Please keep me informed when you will pass through the city, for it is important that we have another interview, in the new light developed by passing events I am too weak to write at length -
