Dear Miss Fletcher,

I was very glad to receive this noon your response 20th to mine of 14th. - I was relieved to know that you had got the check.

We are all very sorry to hear of your illness - I see that you have a proper Consolation under the trial, that it Came to you while working in a good Cause. So are [[?]] feel it to be. I have to thank you for the introduction to a "concern", as "Friends" call such an interest, for Indians & ever since the Hamptonians came to my house, the interest has deepened and I include them, Revd Williamson and all workers for black or red in daily prayers.

Allow me to ask, with the wish that you would frankly answer, if in your convalescence we cannot send you by Express? otherwise? something to benefit or comfort? mention, please, if needed personal money.

are Indians thankless or grateful?

In Prof. Lolly Brewer you have Earnest friends - Since my mention of a letter from the latter, I received one from the Prof. at Enfield [[strikethrough]] Springs [[/strikethrough]] Center, where he was with his brother - he wrote of intention to write to Milwaukie where he supposed you would attend the A.S.A. -

You will be right in prudently preventing a relapse by not overdoing in writing or any other way. Just ennumerate what you would personally like and we will try & forward.

Were you here we should like to dispense melons grapes and other fruits and garden products and give you such attendance as would help you - my daughter joining in Kind regards. Truly yrs
