My wife made an appeal to the Commissioner to day for protection from his raids- Of course I know he is backed by Department Orders- The Dept is exceeding its jurisdiction and he was all this to get revenge-
he is welcome to all he gets.
As to Edward Bearskin, if he could get $75.00 it would be better for him. If he is permitted to handle the money, I am afraid some of it will not be properly expended-
Chas Henry has done nothing, and I cannot recommend him at present. I wish to speak a good word for Andrew Big Thunder, I excused about $35.00 worth of pine material for him to use on his house, myself assuming to pay for it, in case he does not. I therefore wish to recommend him, and ask that he [[???]] of Chas Henry he assisted to $50.00 or $75.00 He seems to be an industrious well meaning man. Henry is living in his new house. It is my candid opinion that Warner administration has sent the Indians backward in the scale of civilisation at least twenty five years, however I will give Moses credit for what he has done this spring as farmers. If not so much what is done, so how it is done, that tells on their people. I have [[???]] in all my experience with them, seen the Winnebajos in such straightened circumstances
