simpler one in the key of Eb. But nobody would ever suspect it from his notation. His accent marks show alternatives of 2/8 or 3/8 in the measures. But he gives only d=80. I'll bet a good deal that the [[underline]] drum-beat [[/underline]] = 80, whether it happens to be equivalent to 2/8 or 3/8. I have a mind to write and ask him. I think I shall quote this song in my Harvard Report, with his notation and also with mine or with my harmony to compare with the Omaha songs. I don't see how he ever contrived to hit on such a blind way of transcribing what he heard. His work is [[underline]] incomparably [[/underline]] inferior to yours. So you have no further occasion to be "down in the mouth" because you couldn't get all the complex rhythms. My regards to Miss Gay.
Yours as ever
