My dear Miss Fletcher:

Yours of the 22d just rec'd.  Glad to hear from you.  I [[underlined]] do [[/underlined]] appreciate how patient, kind, accommodating and generous Francis has been, and I doubt not I shall have much more occasion to know his fine qualities within the next fortnight.  He and I are to meet in Chicago Friday night, July 31 & go on to Nebraska.

I am not in very good condition to go, being tired out, unwell & feverish.  I think it likely that the hotter climate & the change of water may rather upset me.  But I hope to get through a good week's work, all the same.  I shall try to catch all the elusive rhythms which gave you so much trouble and shall keep my eyes & ears open for anything
