I was afraid the plates for the Century would be made; so I took the liberty to write to Prof. Putnam and ask for the proofs of the songs so that I could render the double beats.  I didn't get the faintest idea of what they really were until I saw the Hae-Thuska dances.  That was just the object-lesson I needed.
