Have you any idea what could be paid as salary, for a permanent appointment?  I am sufficiently interested in the work to accept anything which would enable me to live decently. - I am rapidly mastering the phonograph & hope to have a chance to use it next summer.
Do not be anxious about the [[underlined]] Century [[/underlined]].  We shall keep faith with them.  My lecture does not come until the middle of January & their article should be series will have started & & my lecture will only advertise the Century & help the sale of it here. I shall make it a point to do that.
Dr. Susan La Flesche writes me that the Indians who conducted the Wa-war ceremony for me were very much pleased with the presents I sent them.  I hope I shall be in a position to do further work with them, when the opportunity comes.  My oldest son is at the Farleys' at present; has been there a month or six weeks.  I think it has done him good.
