My dear Miss Fletcher:
Yours of the 24th inst recd.  I can't tell you how much I am disappointed at missing your visit.  Two letters came here for you Dec 14th & I have been looking for you by every train since! until I have become the laughing-stock of my family and friends.  I wanted you to be my guest and meet my family; I wanted to see you on general principles; and I wanted to consult you much more freely and satisfactorily than can be done by correspondence and to play you the songs myself.  I think I can play them better than anybody else. - However, you letter gives me hope that I may yet have you here, if only for a day or two, and that your visit is only deferred, not lost.  I hope so.  Pray do not fail to come if possible. - I remail your letters to-morrow morning and will also ship the
