March 8 [[preprinted]] MILWAUKEE SCHOOL OF MUSIC JOHN C. FILLMORE, DIRECTOR. MILWAUKEE, WIS., ^[[March 5]] 189^[[2.]] [[/preprinted]] My dear Miss Fletcher: I think I had better accept the appointment for at least a month, if not two, next summer, even without pay. It is true, I shall lose something in lessons; but I shall add to my scientific knowledge and experience & improve my chances for a University appointment, which is what I desire. Is your information [[underlined]] official [[/underlined]] ? Or must I wait to hear from Prof. Putnam? And don't you think I ought to go to Chicago before long and consult Prof. Putnam and perhaps call on Dr Harper and Prof. Starr, so that they may see what I look like? — Will Francis be able to spend his vacation, or a part of it, with me in the Indian country & get me started? Will not "expenses" include the use of a phonograph? There is another consideration which induces me to let my teaching go next summer; viz, the hope that I may make up the loss by writing an account [[of]] my experiences for some magazine.
