Dear Miss Fletcher:

There has been a great deal written about early articulate sounds common to many diverse linguistic stocks; but so far as I know, no serious analysis of them has been offered. The writers who have handled the subject have been cranks, anxious to show that all languages come from one original tongue; or else, that all tongues were at first
