particle. For the same sound [[underlined]] wa [[/underlined]] used in the same connection in these two dialects we ought to seek an identical signification.

It occurs to me that it is a sacred interjection or shout prefixed to the [[A'wine?]] name. Dorsey gives [[underlined]] "Hau wa'ka-aa-e" [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] H[[u with umlaut]] wa' kaq-a'a-e" [[/underlined]]. You, who have heard this appeal to divinity from native lips can tell me whether the [[underlined]] wa [[/underlined]] seems to be an incorporated interjection. I suspect that it is a part of the emotional utterance, the inarticulated, meaningless cry of the adorer to the unknown, as we find in so many primitive prayers and choruses.

When at your convenient leisure. you can give me your opinions on these points. I shall deem it a high favor.

Yours cordially
[[D.G. Brinton?]]
