My dear Miss Fletcher:

I am in receipt of yours of the 19th [[underlined]] inst. [[/underlined]] I was disappointed in not hearing from you sooner and had no idea of what had occurred. I did not even know you had left the city. But as you were busy in a good cause, I have no complaint to make. I accomplish so little myself that must not grumble at the busy bees.

Unfortunately for your plans, I have made all my arrangements to leave for the summer on June 20th at latest and cannot now change my arrangements without great inconvenience
