3. In building the outer wall of the south lodge there is a row of posts with crotches. Set just a little inside the circle drawn upon the ground to mark off the size of the lodge. These posts slant out a little, out in order to be firm & to support the stringers. Which [[? ? ? ?]] & upon which the roof poles are tied, these posts should be braced in some way. Were they each braced by a pole set straight in the line? [[image - line drawing showing construction of lodge, labels of A, B, C, D, and E correspond to provided legend]] A = the circle of the lodge B = the posts set up to brace its poles C. C. = the crotched post set to hold stringer D. = the space filled with slabs. E = the stringers. I can't think of any other way in which the [[? ?]] could be strong enough to hold the roof. Made of poles. bundles of grass & sod.
